The World Has Fallen under Sin
Reason and intuition teach us
that God created us and the universe that we live in. We see
evidences of the wisdom, power, and goodness of God in
everything that He created. But we also see evidence that
something is wrong. Man was created to be God’s friend and
partner in a world of righteousness and beauty, but man’s
rebellion against God (sin) brought the curse of physical
death, separation from God, and futility.
"Cursed is the ground
because of you" (Genesis 3:17)
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world,
and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because
all sinned (Romans 5:12). The wages of sin is death
(Romans 6:23).
2. God Provided the Way of
Restoration
God, in His righteousness, must
condemn rebellion. Yet, in His love and faithfulness, He
wouldn’t forsake His purpose for mankind and the earth. If
things are to be made right again, it must be by a new act of
creation by the infallible Creator, not by a work of sinful
man.
"In these last days has
spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things,
through whom also He made the world.... When He had made
purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the
Majesty on high... For it was fitting for Him, for whom are
all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many
sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation
through sufferings. (Hebrews 1:2-3, 2:10)
"Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has
come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself
through Christ . . . God made Him who had no sin to
be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the
righteousness of God (2 Cor 5:17-21).
3. You Must Accept God’s Gift
of Redemption by Faith in Jesus Christ
How do we become part of that
New Creation, the one beyond death and God’s judgment? Quite
simply, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be
saved" (Acts 16:31). The gospel is "that Christ died
for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was
buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to
the Scriptures"(1 Cor 15:3-4). You are saved as soon as
you take God at His word that His love motivated Him to send
His sinless Son, Jesus, to die in your place so "that
whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal
life"(John 3:16). "For Christ also died for sins once
for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring
us to God (1 Pet 3:18). "For this is the will of My
Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him,
may have eternal life; and I Myself will raise him up on the
last day"(John 6:40).
4. There Is No Other Way
We can never be saved by good
works, commitments, feelings, prayers, religions, or any other
human effort. You can only be saved by Jesus Christ: "And
there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name
under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must
be saved"(Acts 4:12). "All have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace
through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus (Romans
3:23-24). "The one who does not believe God has made Him a
liar, because he has not believed in the witness that God has
borne concerning His Son. And the witness is this, that God
has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who
has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God
does not have the life" (1 John 5:10-11). Will you turn
from trusting in self or in anything less than Christ Himself
for salvation and accept God’s promise of eternal life in
Christ as His gift to you?
We
